Insider Cyber Threats In Ethiopian Telecom Security: Threats and Defense Strategies

This study investigates insider cyber threats within the Ethiopian telecom, The study focuses on the motivations, behaviors, and security challenges faced by both intentional and unintentional insider threats. The study highlights the prevalence of insider threats such as data theft, system sabotage, and financial fraud, alongside those resulting from employee negligence or lack of security awareness. The findings showed that insufficient monitoring tools, inadequate employee awareness, and limited visibility into employee activities are significant challenges faced by telecom organizations. This paper also underscores the importance of a comprehensive, proactive defense strategy to mitigate these risks. The Key recommendations include the adoption of advanced behavioral monitoring tools, regular security awareness training for employees, and the implementation of stringent access control measures. On top of that, fostering a culture of transparency and trust, offering support mechanisms for employees, and conducting simulated insider threat exercises are essential steps toward creating a secure organizational environment. By focusing on these areas, organizations can improve their ability to avoid and respond to insider threats, thus protecting important assets and sensitive information. The research adds knowledge to cybersecurity studies in emerging economies by providing utility-based strategies that telecom companies in Ethiopia can use to boost their cybersecurity protections. Future research will benefit from the essential discoveries obtained from this study.
