The application of IT in the Ethiopian Construction industry has been quite questionable in the past depriving the country from enjoying the benefits. IT practices such as using Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) in surveying for road design is relatively new to the country. The current geometric design manual being used by Ethiopian Road Administration (ERA) doesn’t direct the use of LiDAR technology for surveying, yet that hasn’t stopped ERA from buying its LiDAR surveyed data output from Space Science and Geospatial Institute (SSGI). In this paper, available LiDAR point cloud post processing software that could be used by SSGI are investigated. The software are compared with a thorough analysis of the technical, organizational and business aspects at hand in order to recommend the best for SSGI.
