Multimedia Systems

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, students will

• understand multimedia,
• be able to use multimedia authoring tools,
• understand multimedia data representation, and
• understand and use video and audio compression and coding.

Course Description

This course introduces students to the basic principles and current technologies of multimedia systems. Topics to be covered include: what is multimedia? multimedia and hypermedia; multimedia and the world wide web; multimedia authoring and tools; multimedia data representations; basic concepts of images, audio and video; lossless and lossy image, audio and video compression algorithms.
