Introduction to UNIX

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, students will be

  • introduced to modern operating system concepts,
  • able to study the file management of UNIX OS,
  • able to use basic and advanced commands in the bash shell,
  • able to describe the process management module of UNIX OS, and
  • able to describe the I/O management component of UNIX OS.

Course Description

The course is aimed to provide a compressive introduction to the full range of UNIX operating system. The course is designed in a way that allows students to admire open software systems, which is the imminent software solution world wide. At the end of the course, students will have the skills required to use UNIX operating system as their development platform and user environment as well as administer a UNIX system.
