Introduction to UNIX

Course Descriptions:

The course is aimed to provide a compressive introduction to the full range of UNIX operating system. The course is design in a way which allows students to admire open software system, which is the imminent software solution worldwide. At the end of the course students will have the skills required to use UNIX operating system as their development platform and user environment as well as anĀ  administer of a UNIX system.

Objectives:-

Upon completion of the course students will be:-

  • describe the layers that form the UNIX architecture
  • able to study the file management of UNIX OS
  • able to use basic and advanced commands in the bash shell
  • able to describe the process management module of UNIX OS
  • able to describe the I/O management component of UNIX OS
  • understand syntax of UNIX command so as to use basic UNIX commands as well as learn how to use new commands
  • understand the file structure used in UNIX system and operates the various file types as required
  • create their own file structure and set permission for each file within their directory structure as required and,
  • understand the basics of shell script and automate small tasks by using shell script
